Twitter steps up in implementing bitcoin tips for content creators and joining the craze of non-fungible tokens.
On Thursday, the microblogging platform announced this roll-out of the bitcoin tip feature across the globe in all Apple iOS users. In the coming weeks, the feature will be available for all Android users.
Product Lead Esther Crawford commented:
“We want Twitter to be the best place for creators to have conversations with their fans and to monetize their audience, all in the way that works best for them.”
Twitter: Implementation of Bitcoin Tips
Before, users could only tip through fiat currency. It became possible due to traditional payment services, like PayPal’s Venmo and Square’s Cash app.
It was May this year. Twitter started the tipping experiment. It allowed creators to earn from their followers by posting content on the platform.
Now, the integration of Strike bitcoin lightning wallet service is officially available. The users can add their bitcoin address to send and receive digital currency tips.
In addition, the company does not take a cut on sending tips. It is only part of its plan, as it competes with other social media platforms—such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
NFT Feature: The Next Move
As for NFTs, the boom of blockchain-based collectibles is undeniable. Several auction houses attract millions of dollars.
In this regard, the company revealed that the system is soon to launch. The NFT feature will permit users to showcase and authenticate their digital assets.
However, specific details are still undisclosed. Twitter still claimed that it is an additional way to help creators.
The company will also release a creator fund feature. Though it is not a blockchain-based feature, it will motivate users to host Spaces audio rooms. Moreover, it will boost more live audio events.
