North Korean cyber-criminal group is allegedly behind Ronin hack

North Korean hacking group Lazarus is reportedly behind the biggest DeFi hack to date.

The US Treasury Department Office of Foreign Assets Control Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons (SDN) list linked with the possibility of the North Korean Lazarus, a cybercriminal group behind the Ronin Bridge hack

North Korean hacking group—alleged mega-heist

On March 23, Axie Infinity publisher Sky Mavis lost over 173,800 ether and 25.5 million USD Coin. Sky Mavis executive confirmed the mega-heist in history.

The digital forensic firm Chainalysis tweeted the robbery update on Thursday. Ronin network also confirmed the information. 

Even blockchain analytic firms Elliptic noted that the U.S Treasury found a digital currency address linked to the North Korean hackers. 

On the other hand, Axie Infinity game developer Sky Mavis remains to keep silent. The U.S. Treasury declines to comment, and cybersecurity platform CrowdStrike does not give any confirmation.

Sky Mavis—reimbursement for victims

In early March,  Sky Mavis executive and co-founder Aleksander Larsen apologized to Axie Infinity users for the security lapses in using the Ronin 

Aleksander Larsen, chief operating officer of Sky Mavis, appeared Friday morning on CoinDesk TV show ‘First Mover’. He acknowledged his team’s route toward progressive decentralization might not be quick and sufficient. 

Larsen mentioned the reimbursement for Axie Infinity victims. Recently, Sky Mavis raised $150 million in funding. Binance led the raise with the additional participation of Animoca Brands, a16z, Dialectic, Paradigm, and Accel.
