Nexon America accepts Bitcoin for in-game transactions

Nexon America accepts Ethereum, Bitcoin, Dogecoin, and other digital currencies for in-game transactions.

Nexon America, a subsidiary of NEXON Co., Ltd., implements a new feature on its Virtual World. Based on the press release, this feature permits players to purchase in-game items using cryptocurrencies in its several Nexon franchises.

Nexon America's new cryptocurrency payment feature

Kenny Chang, the general manager of Nexon America, stated. “Nexon listens closely to feedback from our players, including the many who have requested we include cryptocurrencies as a form of in-game payment.”

Chang also confirmed that the innovative payment feature is effective immediately during the press release. Speaking of in-game items, these include KartRider, Mabinogi, MapleStory, V4, Vindictus, and many others.

The American-based video game publisher cited BitPay as the crypto payment service provider. BitPay CEO Stephen Pair said, “BitPay sees the massive audience of online game players as pioneers in living life on crypto.”

As BitPay commits to manage crypto payments, Pair has pledged to deliver a great experience for players. The acceptable cryptocurrencies are Bitcoin, Ehtereum, Bitcoin Cash, Binance USD, Dogecoin, Dai, Gemini Dollar, Litecoin, Paxos Standard, USD Coin, and Wrapped BTC.

Video gaming industry, blockchain, and cryptocurrency

NEXON Co., Ltd. CEO and President Owen Mahoney pointed out:

“Although Nexon America’s decision to accept cryptocurrency payments is unrelated to the bitcoin holdings of NEXON Co., Ltd., this feature reflects the sophistication of our players and their comfort with non-fiat currencies.”

Nowadays, several developers and platforms embrace blockchain, such as Ubisoft.  Even independent online games have joined on non-fungible tokens (NFTs). To name a few, these are Bright Star Studios’ Ember Sword and CCP’s EVE Online.

The implementation of blockchain technology and crypto payments has started to grow in the gaming industry. These cases show that more companies want to test the waters and exhibit interest in blockchain.
