A new study shows that a person who has a narcissistic personality disorder associates wine with enormous social attractiveness and tends to consume wine excessively.

A person with narcissism strives to gain social admiration; yet ignores to prioritize and understand the needs of others. According to research from the University of Adelaide, narcissist prompts to engage in massive wine consumption for social reasons.

However, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services distinguishes moderate drinking and heavy drinking  or high-risk drinking. The American Heart Association explained that one drink is 5 ounces of wine.

High-risk drinking is when a man consumes more than 2 standard drinks in a day and when a woman consumes over 1 drink in a day. But, what are the problems of heavy drinking?

“Alcohol in excess is really bad for the heart,” Dr. Robert Kloner, director of cardiovascular research at Huntington Medical Research Institutes, explained.

Kloner emphasized that heavy drinking can cause high blood pressure, arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy. Furthermore, some medical researchers admit that excessive drinking can lead to obesity, liver damage, stroke, and numerous types of cancer.

Besides, a recent study from psychologists at the University of Bath points out too much alcohol consumption can impair decision-making ability, affect interpersonal relationships, and lead to alcohol abuse.

According to the World Health Organization, there are some situations when it is better not to drink at all such as driving, operating machinery, pregnant, and take certain medications.

Anyway, there are several benefits of moderate drinking.

Many medical studies recognize the potential benefits of drinking red wine moderately with a healthy diet. A cardioprotective diet, also known as the Mediterranean diet, is one of the recommended diets.

Numerous reviews discuss that a balanced diet with moderate consumption of red wine can decrease insulin resistance, reduce oxidative stress, lower the risk of developing chronic cardiovascular diseases, and prevent age-related memory decline. Besides, it can sharpen memory and provide a relaxation effect even in a displeasing environment.
