AMC to accept Dogecoin as payment option

Following news that AMC would start taking Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin for online payments. The company’s CEO has asked the Dogecoin community if the meme coin should be included to the list of cryptocurrency alternatives.

Adam Aron, CEO of the world’s largest movie theater chain AMC Entertainment, conducted a survey via Twitter on Tuesday to check whether the company should accept DOGE payment, Crypto Potato reported. The survey, which ends on September 22nd, has garnered a lot of responses, most of them wanting AMC to include the meme crypto.

Almost 80% want to pay Doge for a Movie Ticket

According to Aron, the Twitter survey came in response to requests from members of the Dogecoin online community to include DOGE in the list of cryptocurrency options.

The AMC CEO has previously stated that the movie theater chain would take Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin by the end of 2021. This follows Aron’s announcement in August during an earnings call that consumers would be able to pay for movie tickets and refreshments online with bitcoin before the end of the year.

So far, 110,000 people have voted in the survey, with 70% agreeing that DOGE payment is a good concept, while 8% agree but claim they would not use the meme coin for payment. Meanwhile, 22% of voters were opposed to the move.

Massive Support for Dogecoin Payment

Aron’s survey comes at a time when the cryptocurrency market, as well as global financial markets, are experiencing massive price drops, primarily due to the Evergrande saga. Bitcoin, which was trading at $48k over the weekend, has fallen to as low as $40k, with the price of other altcoins also falling. However, there has been some improvement.

AMC Entertainment would become the latest enterprise to accept DOGE payments if the meme token is added to the list of approved cryptocurrencies. The Dallas Mavericks, an NBA basketball team, and Newegg are among those who have adopted Dogecoin.

Aside from AMC’s Adam Aron, Tesla CEO Elon Musk conducted a similar poll among his followers. Despite the fact that a large number of respondents voted in favor of the electric vehicle manufacturer including DOGE as a payment option, the company has yet to make it official.
